I think the best way to get Yngwie's tone would be...
Fender Signature Malmsteen Strat into > YJM308 pedal > Marshall MkII 50 Watt Head > JCM1960AX cab > recorded with a Shure SM57 into whatever recording program your using.

I dont think that I would use the 308, unless I was going for his more recent tone. The 308 is just a bit harsh for his true tone. I would use a ts9 or a dod 250 into the MKII with a green weave cab, using a Malmtseen Strat w/ hs-3's instead of the YJM-3's for his earlier tone i.e. Rising Force, Marching Out, Trilogy.

As far as I can remember Yngwie used the Marshall MkII heads without the master volume...the speakers were the 75 watters as opposed to the 25 or 30 watt greenbacks cause he didn't want speaker breakup. The DOD 250, the idea was to boost the signal before the amp, not really distortion per se, and disconnected tone pots, witch do increase some output. I was actually able to simulate his tone using my 2.0 line 6 pod running direct to my console for a session I did some time back.

Hello Michael! And welcome to the forum. I'm sorry, but I don't have anything to post, 'cause I use the factory presets. ;D From them I can find something for all the styles of music I play.

I have an HS-3 loaded 71' Fender Stratocaster, an 81' DOD 250 and a Super Lead. To get earlier Yngwie tone, you have to just set the volume to 5. I know Yngwie says he uses at full with all the dod knobs cranked... doing this, you'll het his modern awfull over distorted tone.

It's about 90% gain and level 100%... well ok, it's ALMOST cranked... And I don't think his modern sound is "over"distorted. I really like his tone.

I have just recieved my HW Marshall Super Lead back from George Metropoulos of metro amps,I have had numerous mods, which I will list in the future here, but soon I will be experimenting with my 2005 YJM Strat,Vintage White/maple board,is there any other!!lol. I have the YJM308 DOD ,and find it thin compared to the grey 250,which I personally have never played. I use the Boss NS-2 and have a Kord SDD3300 triple delay, but originally wanted the easier SDD-1000,knobs not presets, but lost auction. My whole question on Yngwie's tone is the instructional videos,he says he used the Fender RocPro 1000,but he has great sustain at low volumes,so what is the deal?? Regards Voodoo

I have had my YJM 308 pedal modified by Analogman www,analogman.com check out the Mojo mod/LED fitment/true bypass. I had these mods done for $85 ,including $10 for shipping and cannot describe how different it is,and quiet,I almost don't need my Boss NS-2 Noise Suppresor,it's that quiet now! Here is my review: www.metroamp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7375Regards Voodoo?Yngwie 308 www.analogman.com

On the live in 85 video, when its going thru his gear at the end, you can clearly see on his dod that he used to have the volume set on full but the gain only at 9 o'clock......where as nowadays he has them both on full, try it, i have found it can give a simular sound... STRAT-DC-10-A 'special' DOD250 at settings shown above-Amp dimed along with most of the Tone controls-G12/65w Celestions. The Analogman pedal WILL NOT get you there!! There were several versions of the DOD250 and the Analogman one is just the 'normal' schematic version. I have built several versions and only one cuts the mustard! So anyway, I can ALMOST get there but the 75w's I have are too bitey with this setup. Getting the later tone is simple and the 75w's are perfect for that! What I'm trying to say is that I can hear that the early tone is achieveable with the setup above but the 75's are too tight on the Bass, too scooped in the Mids & too harsh on the top to get me there. The 65's would be smoother on the Bass, Warmer and Punchier on the Mids and more rounded/less bitey on the high end, and that the missing ingredient IMHO Pity I cant afford the reissue 65w speakers ;-)
