Hi Yngwie fans,
This forum is looking a bit bare at the moment so I thought I'd introduce myself and hopefully others will get the idea and post something.
My name is Anne and I live in the UK. I've been a fan of Yngwie since I was 5 years old (although I didn't know who he was at the time). I saw him on tv in 1989 playing what I now recognise to be trilogy suite 1st movement (does anyone know what program this was on? I don't remember but I'm pretty sure it was on BBC1 or 2). I just thought it was the coolest thing I'd ever heard and I wanted to play it. The next year I started learning the violin and trying to play this piece.
Last October a friend of mine lent me a couple of Yngwie albums and the same thing happened all over again. I was just completely blown away by how this music contained everything I love -- the harmonic minor and phrygian modes, diminished 7ths, lush harmonies full of voice leading and figures played in 3rds, arpeggios, Baroque influenced chord sequences but with a heavy feel. It was just so close to what I've been playing on my violin all these years and it never even occurred to me until I'd listened to these songs over and over again that this was the same guy I'd seen on tv in 1989, as I'd had very little interest in any music but classical until last year. I now have 14 of Yngwie's albums and I saw him live in Hammersmith on 30th May this year, which I have to say was one of the best days of my life.
I am now composing neoclassical metal for violin and plan to start performing with my band, Dragon Storm, as soon as I've got my electric violin (which should be ready this autumn ;D ).

Hello, My names Andy I am very new to yngwie's music compared to Anne. The first time I listened to one of his songs was about a year and a half ago at Best Buy. Some guy that worked there was blasting speakers of these fast guitar riffs that I could barley keep up with! He saw I was amazed so he told me old about The Malm. That summer (2004) I bought my first Yngwie CD Rising Force, even though all of his Cd's are great I would have to say its his best CD and I'm very proud to have that to been my first MALMSTEEN CD! Later that year I bought his new CD and an early lesson by him on DVD. I'm glad to see another Yngwie forum. Rock on!

Do you try to play any Yngwie stuff on your violin!? If so what is your favorite song to play? Once again thanks for joining here and hope you get your electric violin soon!! /Behshad Thanks. My electric violin should be really cool. It's a Sabre from www.woodviolins.com 6 string fretless, barbera pickups and my own custom silver sparkle finish! I should get it in 16 weeks and I just can't wait -- to finally be able to shred up the whole fingerboard and have those bottom strings, so I don't have to keep putting low guitar stuff up an octave. I play a lot of Yngwie's stuff on the violin, Far Beyond the Sun being my favourite to play. I've also played Black Star, Evil Eye, I am a Viking, Trilogy, 7th Sign, Vengeance... will attempt Arpeggios from Hell when I have my 2 extra strings. I don't play exactly the same as Yngwie does on his albums when I play these pieces -- sometimes I'll be playing a bit that the keyboard does or I'll just play something that fits the chord sequence. My guitarist is coming over today so it's going to be a bit of an yngwiefest, watching G3, playing along to Unleash (which he hasn't heard yet ) and probably staying up all night to go through the new Dragon Storm stuff, as usually happens when we realise that there's not that much time left before he has to catch the train home. Andy, it's good to see you here and I hope we'll get to hear your final version of Far Beyond the Sun soon.

I can't wait to get my sabre! I'm thinking about recording something on my acoustic with my crappy laptop mic to post here before I get my electric. What do you think?

cool. It'll give me an excuse to try out my "studio". I'll do something this week and post it if I think it's good enough. I don't think the sound quality will be up to much though. I tried to record a thunderstorm a few weeks ago that I wanted to put in the Dragon Storm theme. It sounded really good and thundery in real life and then when I played it back, it sounded like a toilet flushing lol

I don't know. Should I do something of my own, or something of Yngwie's, or Canon in D (just because I can't get it out of my head now)?

Ok. I'll try. The hard bit is getting that trill in the intro to sustain -- I have to play it pizz to get the acoustic sound and on the violin it's almost impossible (and it's not something that's ever done) to play a trill pizz. I've never seen the concerto DVD or heard the whole concerto suite. I ordered it from a local music shop which closed down before I got half of my order so now I'm looking around the cd fairs for the ones that got lost.
