Hi, My name is Chris and I live just north of Boston, MA. I play electric and classical guitar. I love classical music as well as metal, rock, and some jazz. I grew up playing viola but unfortunately haven't picked it up in quite some time. Maybe just writing this will inspire me to pick it up again. I've been an Yngwie fan since about 86' when I was in high school and was BLOWN AWAY the first time I heard him. I have never stopped listening to him since then, I definitely have YNGWIE on the brain! I even played Trilogy Suite on classical guitar at my wedding. My wife loves him too. Maybe some day we'll get to meet him. I look forward to meeting some hardcore Yngwie fans.
God bless, Chris Guarente

Hi Chris. Welcome to the forum. Viola's cool -- I play violin Nice to meet you, I've been reading some of your posts and have wanted to post back to you. I love violin too. Do you play in an orchestra right now or just on your own. I imagine you must be pretty damn good if you can even try to play Paganini's caprices!

I used to lead the Essex Young Peoples Orchestra and a few others but the Essex Music Services manager took a dislike to me and made up all these stories then kicked me out, so I started looking for something away from the classical scene and I'm getting together my own neoclassical metal band Dragon Storm. I'm also from this week playing with a folk rock band Fiddlers Elbow, which is going well so far, as I might be taking over from their usual violinist (I was just told a couple of hours ago) and I'll finally be getting enough money to live on.

Wow, that stinks you got kicked out over some nitwit making stuff up. Keep the attitude that things happen for a reason though. It sounds like it may have been for the best. It may have kick started your career!!! I'd love to hear electric violin in a metal band. You might think it's cheesy, but I really like the Trans-Siberian Orchestra. May wife and I go to see them every year. We just met Alex Skolnick a few weeks ago in Boston. We partied with him and his band at their hotel that night, he's a really cool guy. There were actually a few girls from the New England Conservatory there, so it was a fun time. A few months back I listened to some things on Mark Wood's (TSO's lead violinist and orchestra conductor)website that he's done outside TSO but I don't think it made much of an impression on me because I never followed up on it.

cool. Mark Wood is making my electric violin -- a 6 string fretless sabre with silver sparkle finish. I think that his violins are the only electrics worth getting -- nothing else will give any advantage over putting a pickup on an acoustic.
Yeah, that thing with EMS really got me down at the time. Lots of shit happened all at once and I basically almost stopped playing -- I stopped everything and ended up doing a physical science degree at Cambridge, then chucked that in and tried chemistry at another uni, then I broke my arm, rediscovered Malmsteen, tried my damn hardest to play it with a broken arm (didn't know it was fractured at the time), quit uni again, and now I'm here and things are getting a bit better. And I agree that things happen for a reason, and I try not to be bitter about the stuff that sucks because you learn from it and become a better person.

course I'll be using distortion -- people sometimes think I get distortion on my acoustic, anyway, and they ask me what I'm doing to get that sound but I really don't have a clue.

Thats cool do you play guitar and bass or just bass? I mostly play bass, but a little guitar too, but I tend to be lazy lol and find the bass so much easier to handle. I just bought a warlock, heavy bass, oooo but what sounds it produces!
