I haven't made up my mind about it yet. There's a few cool things about it but i'd be more interested to hear what others have to say.

I have to be honest, I haven't actually given the album my undivided attention but just thought I'd get the ball rolling here with a few of my thoughts.
I really like the idea of alternating the songs and instrumentals -- that's something that Yngwie has never done in this way before and it does help the album to "flow" better. Can't remember exactly which track it is right now but there's one instrumental with a galloping rhythm that I love. But wtf happened to the Adagio? Yngwie did that one well in Rising Force and there are many great live versions but this one I just felt was being slowly strangled. I don't like the tempo he chose this time (too fast), or the repetitive chords under the melody, which just sounds stagnant when compared to the original Albinoni moving octave bassline. Would love to hear what it is that you all love/hate about this latest release.

Had another listen. Favourite track definitely has to be Shot Across the Bow (that's the one I couldn't remember in my last post) -- so much energy in that one. I don't think overall that Relentless (the album, not the track) is up there with the best of his previous albums though -- there's still a lot that I just don't find that interesting even after listening a few times (especially the improvised solos that don't have any sense of direction). I'm also looking forward to a change of singer for the next album (Yngwie does tend to just keep them for 2 albums and then makes a change) and I just don't like Ripper, especially after seeing him live. At the moment I'm mostly listening to Alchemy, which I much prefer.

You know it seems the more I listen to an album I thought was drab on the first listen it gets better with age. Perhaps that will happen with this one. Perpetual Flame on the other hand I listen to for probably 2 months non-stop after I bought it. It caused me to go out and buy an Yngwie sig Strat I loved it so much. Probably not the best guitar for a beginner but I thought that if I could play that with ease eventually I could play anything. I really think he needs to go back to his roots with Viking themes.
As for Ripper I think his voice fits in nicely but performance wise he needs a kick. Wish I could have made it down to that Chicago show to find out in person on Fri. Yngwie has always said he doesn't like girly male voices but it's hard to deny that some of the earliest stuff had the proper voice to present the lyrics.
