OK, so here comes a quick review from when I saw the Maestro in Cincinnati last Saturday, Nov. 19th.
This was the 10th time for me to see Yngwie live, 1 being the G3-03 .
The show started with Orange Sky which in MY opinion wasn't anything to get excited about. You could tell that the people were just there to see YNGWIE! after 30 minutes of mediocre metal mixed with some rap, Orange Sky got off the stage and the LONG wait for Yngwie to get on stage! After about 1 hour of classical music played in the club (probably the 1st time ever they played any classical in this place!) Yngwie finally took over stage by massive shredding fading into drums which started "Rising Force". The set-list from what I remember :
Demon Driver
Locked and Loaded
Cracking The Whip
Far Beyond The Sun
Krakatau
Unleash The Fury
Never Die
Dreaming
Fuguetta (Duel with the new Keyboard player Nick )
US Anthem
Baroque And Roll
Cherokee Warrior
You Don't Remember
Drum Solo
Wind of War
Rise Up
Exile
...... Encore:
I'll See The Light Tonight.
The show turned out to be great, except the sound was really muffled and the vocals weren't loud enough.
Yngwie's microphone seemed louder than Doogies!
Here's my rating of the show, band, sound songs etc
THE SHOW : 5/5
SONG SELECTION: 4/5 *NO BLACK STAR??*
THE BAND : 5/5
YNGWIE : 4.5/5
DOOGIE : 5/5
PATRICK : 6/5 (!)
MICK : 4/5
NICK : 3/5
Yes I know I didn't give Yngwie a full 5 out of 5. The reason is NOT because he wasn't good, its simply because I have seen him do a notch better than this before! He is still amazing and the best guitar player around, it just seemed that he had a bit more to give and was holding it back for some reason!
I was amazed by the power and energy of Patrick Johanson on the drums!
After the show I got to hang out with Doogie, Mick and Patrick. Yngwie and family went to the bus ! Antonio has grown since the last time I seen him!(last year)
Also I got a chance to talk to April before the show! She is so down to earth and friendly! Glad to see Yngwie with a woman that appreciates him and his music!
I think the main reason Yngwie's sound wasn't as good as he usually sound, was because he played at Bogart's and that place is NOT a good place for live shows!
I cant wait to see Yngwie in the future! Hopefully NEXT TIME I get to shake his hand and thank him for all the amazing skills and the great songs he has provided us the past 20+ years!
God Bless,
